Nisar welcomes withdrawal of POL prices ISLAMABAD: Leader of the Opposition in National Assembly, Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan on Thursday complimented the Prime Minister for announcing the withdrawal of recent increase in petroleum prices and said the government had fulfilled the longstanding demand of the people. Speaking in the National Assembly, he said although it is difficult for any government to revert its decision but the government has set a good precedent by retrieving from its decision on petroleum prices in the larger national interest. He said: "It is not a matter of victory or defeat for the government or opposition rather it is a joint message from parliament to the people that the parliament is trying to address the masses problems." He, however said that all the people particularly women were suffering due to severe gas load-shedding and the government should also take pragmatic steps in this regard. Nisar said, "There are sane people in the ranks of the government who always put the situation on the right track when it goes worse. Expressing grief over the killing of Salman Taseer in Islamabad, he said that some elements are politicizing the assassination of governor Punjab which is very unfortunate. He said these people are dragging the country into turmoil and confrontation, adding that investigation into the incident is underway and the people would have to wait for the report before giving any judgment. "It is the responsibility of respective province to provide security to VVIP where he/she visits. The Governor Punjab was killed in Islamabad and it was the responsibility of the local administration to provide him security," he added. Nisar said that besides setting up a judicial commission, committees were also constituted by Punjab and federal governments to probe the incident.
