Govt trying to influence probe: PML-N LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-N has termed declaration of Salman Taseer’s murder as political an attempt to influence the ongoing joint and judicial investigations into the assassination, Geo News reported Thursday.

Addressing a news conference here, PML-N spokesman Siddique-ul-Farooq said that former Punjab governor (late) Salman Taseer should have been very careful in making (controversial) statements. “If it was not Mumtaz Qadri, someone else would have done the same thing anyway,” he said.

He said some Pakistan People’s Party leaders were, under a certain kind of plan, declaring the assassination of Salman Taseer as political.

Siddiqui-ul-Farooq called upon the President and Prime Minister to order a halt on statements having potential to affect the ongoing investigation into the assassination of Salman Taseer.

“If Rehman Malik would himself speak of taking the law into his own hands, how could any one else be blamed for doing such a thing?” he asked.

He said according to ‘blue book, it was federal government’s responsibility to provide security to Salman Taseer.

The PML-N spokesman asked: “When Salman Taseer was facing threats after issuing statements on sensitive issues, why did he not avoid frequenting public places?”

He said President should take PML-N and Punjab Chief Minister into confidence on appointment of the governor of Punjab.
